La Taberna del Alabardero owes its name to the ‘Compañía de los Alabarderos’ (Company of the Halberdiers), who are members of the Royal Guard responsible for guarding the Royal Palaces. Its origin dates back to the start of the 16th century. They are named after the halberd, which is the lance that accompanies them during their service.
Its proximity to the Royal Palace of Madrid meant that the halberdiers originally found this tavern to be a place for relaxing. Thus, La Taberna del Alabardero has been part of Madrid’s authentic history for more than 45 years.
It has several spaces reserved for different capacities, where history, folklore and culture are the main features of their décor. At Taberna del Alabardero, Basque gastronomy has a special place, combined with traditional dishes and a special focus on local produce. It is most certainly a unique experience for a special celebration.
